Why this tool is useful

Gray noise is a psychoacoustically weighted noise signal designed to sound equally loud across all frequencies to human ears, compensating for the fact that human hearing is more sensitive to mid-range frequencies than to very high or very low frequencies. This makes gray noise subjectively flatter and more neutral than white, pink, or brown noise from a perceptual standpoint. Audio calibration engineers use gray noise when evaluating speaker and headphone frequency response in acoustic environments.
